Uncle Fletch takes its name from Fletcher Davis, the Texas cook often credited as one of the early inventors of the hamburger. We simply decided that anyone responsible for something as universally loved as the hamburger deserved to become part of the family—so Fletcher became Uncle Fletch.
The identity grew from that story, borrowing from the straightforward and unpretentious character of the original hamburger: good meat, good bread and very little need for explanation.
Whether Fletcher Davis actually invented the hamburger remains open to debate. But every family needs a good story, and Uncle Fletch seemed like a particularly good one.
