Karün began with a rather simple but ambitious idea: to make sustainable eyewear from recycled wood. I designed the original identity and packaging for the brand, at a time when sustainability was still far from being the obligatory word it has become today.
The packaging followed the same philosophy as the product, using Mapuche craftsmanship to create a protective case that connected the glasses directly to their origins in Patagonia. The idea was that sustainability shouldn't simply be something written on the packaging; it should be evident in the way the entire product was conceived.
What began as a small Chilean project has since grown into a world-class sustainable eyewear brand, present in more than 20 countries.
It's particularly satisfying to see an idea you worked on at the very beginning grow up and make its own way in the world.
